Badminton’s world ranking takes into account a player’s ten-best performances over the past 52 weeks. And before the tournament, Nehwal was ranked world No.2 with 74,381 points behind China’s Li Xuerui (79,214 points).
When the rankings list does become official next week, Nehwal will be the first non-Chinese player since Denmark’s Tine Baun in 2010 to hold the number one spot in the women’s category. In the men’s category, Prakash Padukone had held that position 35 years ago. Nehwal was herself ranked at 2 back in 2010 and has been a top-10 player since 2009.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday arrived in Singapore to attend the State Funeral Services of Singapore’s founder and first premier Lee Kuan Yew.
Lee, 91, died of severe pneumonia on March 23.The Prime Minister will be attending the funeral of Lee on Sunday, the Spokesperson in the External Affairs Ministry said.
In his condolence message after Lee’s demise, Mr. Modi had said, “A far-sighted statesman and a lion among leaders, Lee Kuan Yew’s life teaches valuable lessons to everyone. News of his demise is saddening.”

4. ISRO navigation satellite in orbit

ISRO navigation satellite in orbit
India on Saturday demonstrated its ability to establish an independent regional navigation satellite system, as ISRO’s PSLV C-27 successfully launched Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) 1-D satellite into the intended orbit.
IRNSS-1D, which will provide navigation, tracking and mapping service and have a mission life of 10 years, is the fourth in the constellation of seven satellites
With this launch, the country is poised to operationalise the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System.
