1. Nepal PM Sushil Koirala invites PM Narendra Modi to address donors' conference in Kathmandu

Nepal Prime Minister Sushil Koirala on Thursday invited his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi to visit the country on June 25 to address the first donors' conference being hosted in Kathmandu. Prime Minister Koirala also briefed Prime Minister Modi on the steps his Government is taking for the rehabilitation and reconstruction in Nepal following the earthquakes in April and May. He also mentioned that he has sent his Finance Minister, Ram Chandra Mahat, to Delhi with a personal invitation for Prime Minister Modi.


2. Africa creates TFTA - Cape to Cairo free-trade zone

African leaders have agreed to create the continent's largest free-trade zone, covering 26 countries in an area from Cape Town to Cairo. The deal, signed in Egypt, is intended to ease the movement of goods across member countries which represent more than half the continent's GDP. Three existing trade blocs - the Southern African Development Community (Sadc); the East African Community (EAC) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa) - are to be united into a single new zone. With this agreement comes into fruition a century-old dream to link the continent from the Cape to Cairo.

3. India has unlocked its first indigenously built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant at a ceremony at Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL)

India on Wednesday undocked its first indigenously-built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant at a simple ceremony at Cochin Shipyard Limited here. The ship, built at CSL, will undergo a series of fitment and trial processes before it is ready for propulsion and inducted into the Navy, CSL officials said.India's largest aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant's induction into the Navy will be done after a series of static and dynamic trials, they said. The successful completion of the 40,000 tonne aircraft carrier puts India in the elite group of four nations - the US, Russia, the UK and France - in the world capable of designing and constructing aircraft carriers.

4. Senior scientist Srivari Chandrasekhar has been appointed Director CSIR Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT)

Srivari Chandrasekhar has been appointed as director of CSIR- Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT). The appointment made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is also the president of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research was announced on Tuesday.  Chandrasekhar was born in Hyderabad and did his entire education in the city before joining IICT in 1986 as Junior Research Fellow to his PhD.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today handed over the Bangladesh Liberation War Honour to the family members of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, an official statement said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today "handed over the Bangladesh Liberation War Honour to the family members of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee - Ranjan Bhattacharya, Namita Bhattacharya, and Niharika Bhattacharya", a statement from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said. Bangladesh conferred the award on Mr Vajpayee for his contribution to the South Asian nation's fight for liberation from Pakistan.

6. Indian Cricket Team Captain, MS Dhoni, is the only cricketer in the top100 of Forbes' list of the world's highest paid athletes

Cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni is among Forbes magazine's 100 highest-paid athletes in the world, the only Indian sportsman on the list that has been topped again by American boxer Floyd Mayweather and includes golfer Tiger Woods, tennis star Roger Federer and Portuguese soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo. Dhoni has been ranked 23rd on the Forbes list of The World's Highest-Paid Athletes 2015, dropping a notch from his ranking of 22 last year. Dhoni's total earnings stood at $31 million, including amount from salary/winnings at $4 million and endorsements worth $27 million.
